Satellite images captured before and after the 7-8 August clash between Georgia, South Ossetian separatists and Russia reveal that 424 civilian structures near Tskhinvali were damaged by 19 August – although they appeared intact in images taken on 10 August and earlier, the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) has reported.

Russia's president signed decrees on Tuesday recognizing Georgia's breakaway South Ossetia and Abkhazia as independent states and called on other countries to follow suit.

For a moment I thought I am watching a Russian channel not the CNN, as the network was showing what the Russians were telling already few days: that the Georgia and it's president Saakashvili committed atrocities in South Ossetia. I hear more talks on CNN about the recognition of these republics' independence and getting peace in the region.

The Foreign Ministry of Nagorno Karabakh Republic expresses its deep and sincere condolences to the relatives of the civilians perished and wounded as a result of the tragic events in South Ossetia.

President Medvedev said Russia would “support any status for South Ossetia and Abkhazia that is accepted by the people of these republics.”

The real action is going to start after the ceasefire. The time will show what really happened and who did what. So far we know that Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili ordered the assault on South Ossetia thinking he can solve the problem within 48 hours. Everyone knew that Russia would give strong military response. If Saakashvili did not know that then it's time for him to resign ASAP because his action seriously endangered the very existence of the country of Georgia.

Russian planes continued bombing raids on Georgia Monday, ignoring international appeals for the country to observe Georgia's offer for a cease-fire. Russian leaders say Georgia has yet to fully honor the cease-fire, claiming that Georgian forces have continued to attack the breakaway province of South Ossetia's capital, Tskinvali.
