As part of its Concerts for Children series, the Singapore Symphony Orchestra presents to its young audiences two delightful performances of The Listener at Esplanade on September 6. The Singapore Symphony Orchestra will be joined by artists from the Magic Circle Mime.

On August 10 at 2 pm, The Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra Concert Band will delight the public at St. Christopher's Church in Vandalia with the works of a wide variety of musical masters.

The Dead Composers Society (DCS) invites young professionals (ages 21-39) to enjoy dinner, classical music and meeting new people on Saturday, September 20, 2008. We will meet at 6:00 pm for a fun activity and food (location TBA), followed by the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra performance, Roots, at 8 pm in the Michigan Theater. This concert features pianist Louis Nagel, reader Thomas Blaske, and composer Paul Fetler.

Connecticut families will "Dance, Sing, and Play" at the 2008-2009 Hartford Symphony Family Matinee Series, featuring special guests Magic Circle Mime Company, as well as student soloists and ensembles. Marc Kaplan of West Hartford will guest conduct this three concert series, designed to give children and families a fun, interactive classical music experience.

On September 17th at 2:00 pm at the Jewish Community Center (2935 Birch Hollow Dr, Ann Arbor, MI 48108, 734-971-0990), the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra (A2SO) will host a performance of music for the Harp, featuring Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra's Principal Harpist Amy Ley. Dessert is served at 1:30 pm followed at 2:00 pm by the one-hour concert. Single tickets are available at the door for $8. A season of five Afternoon Delights concerts is $35.

The Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra opens their 2008-2009 season with "Roots" on Saturday, September 20th in the Michigan Theater at 8 pm. The Orchestra is celebrating its 80th Season with a series of six celebratory concerts between September and April. This is the final concert that will record the music of Paul Fetler for the A2SO's first commercial CD, on the Naxos label.

Iron Horse Boulevard in Simsbury will feel like "Penny Lane" as the Hartford Symphony Orchestra and special guests Classical Mystery Tour - featuring original members of the Broadway sensation Beatlemania - "Come Together" for a Beatles tribute at the Talcott Mountain Music Festival on Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center at Simsbury Meadows in Simsbury.

Movie theaters aren't the only places in Connecticut to experience Hollywood blockbusters this summer. As the conclusion to the 2008 Talcott Mountain Music Festival, presented by Chubb, the Hartford Symphony Orchestra will perform the music from Movie Classics with guest conductor Jeff Tyzik on Friday, July 18, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center at Simsbury Meadows in Simsbury.

Continuing the summer season of the Talcott Mountain Music Festival, presented by Chubb, guest conductor Michael Berkowitz will lead the Hartford Symphony Orchestra in a tribute to Motown and R&B with vocal quartet Spectum on Friday, July 11 at 7:30 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center at Simsbury Meadows.

Classical Spectacular returns exclusively to Melbourne in 2008 with a dazzling all-new laser, lights and special effects show choreographed to some of the world's best-known classical music tunes.

In keeping with the Talcott Mountain Music Festival's annual red-white-and-blue tradition, the Hartford Symphony Orchestra presents Celebrate America! on Friday, July 4 and Saturday, July 5 at 7:30 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center at Simsbury Meadows.

James Ehnes won the 2008 Grammy for best instrumental solo performance with orchestra for his recording of a selection of violin concertos. His excellent wrangling of the works of Barber, Korngold and Walton is praiseworthy, but Ehnes does not coast.
