Opera Carolina's 2008/2009 Season features old favorites with new twists. Including some of the most beloved composers of all time, Opera Carolina's upcoming season will feature the most memorable characters in all of Opera sung by a diverse cast of internationally acclaimed performing artists.

Glimmerglass Opera has announced that soprano Lyubov Petrova will make her company and role debut as Cleopatra in the company’s new production of Handel’s Giulio Cesare in Egitto, which will run July 6 through August 23 at the Alice Busch Opera Theater in Cooperstown, New York.

Calgary Opera has been invited to present its most recent new work Hannaraptor by Allan Gilliland and Val Brandt at the largest annual gathering of North American Opera companies – the OPERA America’s National Performing Arts Convention – taking place in Denver from June 11 to 14. The conference welcomes delegates from across the USA, Canada, Mexico, and beyond to convene over opera-related topics. Calgary Opera will partake in a showcase of North American new works.

For the 2008 Summer Season, Opera New Jersey has expanded their Children’s Camp, Explorations in Opera, to two weeks. This is twice the length of the 2007 Camp, which was one week long. The Camp tops Opera New Jersey’s continuing commitment to opera and musical education throughout the state.

Two of opera’s biggest stars, soprano Angela Gheorghiu and tenor Roberto Alagna, will perform together in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park on June 20 at 8pm, together with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and Chorus, in what is anticipated will be one of the Metropolitan Opera’s largest outdoor concerts in company history.

English National Opera’s 2008/09 Sky Arts Season includes 10 new productions, five revivals and the opera directing debut of acclaimed actress Fiona Shaw and the UK debut of award-winning film makers Penny Woolcock and Abbas Kiarostami.
