Sri Lanka's authorities say at least seven people were killed Saturday when a roadside bomb hit a civilian bus in the island's north. A military spokesman says the attack occurred outside the town of Vanvuniya. He said six civilians and one soldier were killed and at least 26 other people were wounded in the blast.

Sri Lankan officials say suspected Tamil rebels have killed four farmers in the eastern part of the country. Officials say rebels ambushed the farmers Thursday in the district of Polonnaruwa. The attack happened near a jungle area where Tamil rebels have been fighting Sri Lankan troops. The rebels had no immediate comment on the shootings.
