Due to be completed in June 2009, the Burj Dubai overtook the highest building record last year on July 24th, 2007. Burj Dubai will become the world's tallest building, along with the world's tallest man-made structure when it is completed.

The Burj Dubai, designed by the Chicago office of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP (SOM), is now officially the world's tallest free-standing structure.
