President Bush says the proposed U.S. trade deal with Colombia is "dead," unless House of Representatives Speaker Democrat Nancy Pelosi schedules a vote now.

Russian news reports say Moscow has signed a $1 billion deal with India to upgrade more than 60 MIG-29 jet fighters it had previously sold to New Delhi.

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has led a congressional delegation to Colombia to study a proposed trade deal. In Miami, VOA's Brian Wagner reports the Bush administration has been pressing Congress to pass the deal.

Chinese President Hu Jintao ends a visit to Russia today with a stopover in Tatarstan. He is expected to meet with Mintimer Shaimiev, the president of Tatarstan, a mainly Muslim province in central Russia with large oil reserves.

Russia and China have signed new trade deals in metals, mining, and oil worth a total $4 billion. The 21 contracts include an agreement by state-controlled Russian oil company Rosneft to supply jet fuel to China as well as long-term export contracts for Russian steel products.
