New system lets engineers safely excavate roadway tunnel beneath landslide-prone stretch of California's Highway 1

The Siemens Industrial Solutions and Services Group (I&S) has received an order from Zakłady Usług Energetycznych i Komunikacyjnych grupa ZUE S.A. (Energy Services and Road Transport Services Company, ZUE Group, a public limited company), Krakow, to equip a tunnel for a high-speed tramcar with a control system and safety equipment. The system will be used to control and monitor the safety systems.

The traffic into the Holland Tunnel is being diverted Friday morning, as Hazmat crews and a significant police presence are on the New York City side.

Swiss officials Friday inaugurated the world's longest overland tunnel, a 34.6-kilometer-long (21-mile-long) rail link under the Alps meant to ease highway traffic jams in the mountainous country.

The last quadripolar magnet was brought down into the tunnel of the world's largest particle accelerator; the CERN's1 LHC, or Large Hadron Collidor. This magnet is part of a series of 392 units which will ensure that the beams are kept on track all along their trajectory through the tunnel.
