Rescue crews are searching an area of the Pacific near San Diego for nine survivors after the crash of a Coast Guard transport plane and a Marine Corps helicopter off San Clemente Island last night.

The Coast Guard this morning rescued Oregon National Guardsmen who's training mission went awry. Six Oregon National Guard soldiers were rescued in the mouth of the Columbia river after their vessel capsized.

The United States Coast Guard is searching for an 18-yr old who reportedly fell overboard off a Carnival Cruise Lines ship.

The United States Navy has proposed a "global maritime partnership" of like-minded countries working together to combat common threats at sea. The idea was floated at a maritime conference in Sydney on security and cooperation. Phil Mercer reports from Sydney.
