August 2009, right before the beginning of the school year, Arne Duncan, Secretary of Education, wrote a letter to school and education community leaders about the state of Arts Education. This morning, the National Mathematics Advisory Panel called for schools to focus on several “critical foundations” or benchmarks for U.S. schoolchildren.
