Sgt. Merlin German The Miracles Passes On

Manhattan-born US Marine Sgt. Merlin German, 22, died on April 11, but somehow it just made the newspaper today. Dubbed the Miracle Man because he survived burns to 97% of his body, German was injured in a roadside blast in Iraq in February, 2005. The Miracle Man had endured over 100 operations, but sadly a procedure to replace skin under his lip finally claimed his life.

The Cost Of Iraq Freedom: US toll nears 4000

The death of four soldiers Sunday from a roadside improvised explosive device has raised the total of American soldiers in Iraq to die in combat has reached 4,000. The four soldiers were traveling in their vehicle in southern Baghdad around 10 a.m. local time, when the vehicle was hit by an explosion from the IED. A fifth soldier was wounded. Following standard procedure, the identities of those killed have been withheld pending notification of relatives.

US Says North Korea Will Turn Over Remains of US Soldiers

The head of a U.S. delegation in North Korea says Pyongyang has agreed to turn over the remains of six U.S. soldiers killed during the Korean War more than 50 years ago. New Mexico state governor Bill Richardson released a statement Monday noting the agreement after meeting with General Ri Chan Bok - North Korea's commanding general at the demilitarized zone dividing the two Koreas.
