Mass communication may have developed to unbelievably sophisticated levels, but for much of the 20th century the poster seems to have retained the power to influence opinion. Now a major new exhibition has opened at the Imperial War Museum in London exploring this phenomenon by presenting hundreds of the most eye-catching and iconic posters from WWI to the present day.

Vast sculptures created from a variety of domestic objects are currently filling the spacious galleries of the New Art Gallery Walsall. They have been created by Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos for her first major UK exhibition, which runs at the gallery until November 25 2007.

The City of Liverpool today unveiled a spectacular programme of events for its year as European Capital of Culture in 2008. A new exhibition at Shipley Art Gallery is capturing changing influences and trends in the north east over the past 60 years.
