Symetrics Industries, LLC announced today an award from the U.S. Army for approximately 300 Improved Data Modems (IDM) for installation on Army aircraft. The contract value will be between $7 and $8 million, once final negotiations are completed. The IDM-304 is the Army version of the Improved Data Modems that Symetrics has been delivering to the U.S. Air Force for over 14 years.

Computer Sciences Corporation (NYSE: CSC) announced today that it has been awarded a contract by the U. S. Air Force Space Command to provide technical services at the Air Force’s Eastern Range, headquartered at Patrick Air Force Base, Fla. CSC estimates the value of the agreement, which has a 10-month base period and nine one-year options, to be $820 million if all options are exercised.

Researchers from the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), in Laurel, Md., in conjunction with scientists from NASA Goddard Space Flight Center and the U.S. Air Force Academy, have developed a tiny analyzer to study depletions of plasma (known as plasma bubbles) in the ionosphere, a phenomenon that can disrupt satellite communications.
