Co-sponsors in the talks on the status of Kosovo will continue negotiations within the Contact Group in Vienna Wednesday. Britain, France, Italy, Germany, the United States and Russia will meet for the first time after a draft resolution on Kosovo by UN envoy Martti Ahtisaari was removed from consideration in the UN Security Council last week under pressure from veto-wielding Moscow.

Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Wednesday that Russia will not seek to abandon the Conventional Forces in Europe treaty when a conference of treaty signatories is held next week in Vienna, Russian news agencies reported.

Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Vienna for a brief official visit amid tight security and expectations that Austrian leaders may gently take up human rights issues with him while focusing on business deals.
