The Bay Area art-pop trio Deerhoof brings its joyously eclectic sound to the Walker Art Center's William and Nadine McGuire Theater at 8 pm Tuesday, October 2. Mixing precision with rawness, sweetness with edge, improvisational firepower with tightly constructed song structures, Deerhoof's inimitable sound is rooted in the power percussion of drummer Greg Saunier and the angular, drivingly complex guitar work of John Dieterich.

Super Night Shot begins exactly one hour before you arrive at the theater. Declaring war on anonymity, the U.K./Germany’s Gob Squad takes to the streets of Minneapolis armed with videocams as the public becomes unwitting costars in this often moving, surreal, and comic journey of surprises and unplanned encounters.

From September 14–October 21, the Walker Art Center presents the Regis Dialogue and Retrospective Béla Tarr: Mysterious Harmonies, featuring all of the acclaimed director’s feature films, as well as a Regis Dialogue with Tarr and film critic Howard Feinstein (September 14, 8 pm).

The Walker Art Museum presents Two by Greenaway, September 7–9, featuring new 35mm prints of two classic films by filmmaker Peter Greenaway. Honored by the Walker in 1997 with a Regis Dialogue and Retrospective, Greenaway has produced a wealth of short and feature-length films, making him one of the most innovative and influential filmmakers of his generation.

Due to popular demand, the Walker Art Center has extended gallery hours for the final days of the landmark exhibition Picasso and American Art, on view through September 9. Museum galleries will be open from 10 am–10 pm Thursday–Saturday, September 6–8, and from 10 am–6 pm Sunday, September 9.

Families can find inspiration for a day of fun from one of the masters at Pick-Up Picasso, the Walker Art Museum's Free First Saturday event from 10 am–3 pm Saturday, September 1.

The Walker Art Center’s Target Free Thursday Nights in September are highlighted by Student Open House: The Big Dance (September 27, 5–9 pm). Presented by the Walker Art Center Teen Arts Council, this back-to-school celebration features a talk with Miami-based arts collective Friends with You, the sounds of DJ Talk Radio, a continuous screening of Rineke Dijkstra’s The Buzz Club, Liverpool, England/Mysteryworld, Zaandam, Netherlands, and an art lab.

September tours at the Walker Art Center offer a final chance to see the exhibitions Picasso and American Art, a groundbreaking exhibition organized by the Whitney Museum of American Art that juxtaposes Picasso’s art with that of luminaries such as Jackson Pollock, Roy Lichtenstein, Max Weber, Louise Bourgeois, and Jasper Johns; and Paper Trail: A Decade of Acquisitions.

Minneapolis Walker Art Center will present world premiere of Catherine Sullivan’s new film from August 23 to November 18.

Adults and kids ages 2-5 are invited to Walker Art Center to learn how to think about numbers and math in a whole new way.

A Walker Art Center After Hours preview party celebrates the opening of Picasso and American Art, organized by the Whitney Museum of American Art exhibition and making its final tour stop at the Walker, from 9 pm-12 midnight on Friday, June 15.

Few artists have captured the public's imagination with the force of Frida Kahlo (1907-1954). In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of this Mexican artist and to recognize her powerful influence on artists working today, the Walker Art Center is organizing a major exhibition of Kahlo's paintings to premiere in Minneapolis (October 27, 2007-January 20, 2008), before beginning a U.S. tour.
