Parents and caregivers with youngsters ages 2-5 have a new way to find artistic inspiration with Arty Pants: Your Tuesday Playdate, an ongoing Walker Art Center program designed to nurture creativity and engage a child's mind. Arty Pants programs, presented monthly on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month, feature art projects, films, gallery activities, and story readings.

For 20 years, Petronio has worked with some of the most talented and provocative visual artists, musicians, and designers of the time. In BLOOM he commissioned a score from poetic pop singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright, to be sung by the 40-member Minnesota Boychoir, exploring the creative freedom of youth and the bittersweet poignancy of transformation.

On Tuesdays, March 6, 13, 20, and 27, the Walker Art Center and AIGA (American Institute of Graphic Arts) Minnesota present Dis-Contents: Insights 2007. This year's Insights lecture series explores alternative forms of publishing initiated by graphic designers-from podcast interviews and the online discourse of design blogs to publications dedicated to offbeat subjects or cultural musings-and the overlapping roles of the designer as author, editor, and publisher.

The moving image takes center stage at Caught on Film, the Walker Art Center's Free First Saturday event from 10 am-5 pm Saturday, March 3.

With all the searing intensity of Jimi Hendrix himself, the World Saxophone Quartet pays blistering homage to this '60s guitar master in a night that's pure Hendrix (sans flaming instruments) on Saturday, March 10, at 7 and 9:30 pm, in the Walker Art Center's William and Nadine McGuire Theater.

From March 2-17, the Walker Art Center presents Women with Vision 2007: Mirror Image. The 14th annual international festival of films by women directors presents"‰ the best contemporary cinema, offering not only a reflection of our world, but also new ways of seeing ourselves. The first six features-from Italy, France, Scotland, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Germany-are grouped under the banner "New Europe."

The first full-scale American museum survey of the work of artist Kara Walker premieres at the Walker Art Center February 17-May 13. Organized by Philippe Vergne, Deputy Director and Chief Curator, and Yasmil Raymond, Assistant Curator, at the Walker, in close collaboration with the artist, Kara Walker: My Complement, My Enemy, My Oppressor, My Love features works ranging from her signature black cut-paper silhouettes to film animations to more than 100 works on paper.

Walker Art Center After Hours preview party celebrates the premiere of Kara Walker: My Complement, My Enemy, My Oppressor, My Love, the artist's first full-scale American museum survey, from 8 pm-12 midnight on Friday, February 16. The exhibition, which travels to New York City and Los Angeles, showcases Walker's signature cutout silhouettes depicting historical narratives set in the American South before the Civil War.

AfricaNOW: Currents of a Continent, the Walker Art Center's ongoing exploration of contemporary expression from across sub-Saharan Africa, continues with The Farber Foundry's Amajuba: Like Doves We Rise at 8 pm Thursday-Saturday, February 22-24, and at 2 pm Sunday, February 25, in the William and Nadine McGuire Theater.
