Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra Music Director Andreas Delfs and President and Executive Director Mark C. Hanson announced plans today for the MSO’s 2008/09 season – the MSO’s 50th and Music Director Andreas Delfs’ 12th and final season as Music Director. Delfs will become Conductor Laureate following this season, honoring the contributions Delfs has made to the MSO and the City of Milwaukee.

Local Milwaukee rock band The Gufs join the Milwaukee Symphony at the end of June for the U.S. Bank Summer Concert Series. These four free performances take place in Milwaukee County Parks, and are sponsored by U.S. Bank and Target, with additional support provided by the Greater Milwaukee Foundation. The performance dates are as follows:

Guest conductor Jack Everly leads the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra in 1950s: The Golden Age of Black and White June 6, 7 and 8, 2008. You'll be transported back to the fabulous 1950s through the music of Elvis, Doris Day, Nat King Cole, Bobby Darin, and many more. The program will also feature a cappella artists Chapter 6 and soloists Farah Alvin and Sharon Wheatley.

The Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra presents "Symphony on the Square", four free outdoor performances in Cathedral Square Park at 12 noon during the month of June with a bonus Arts in Community Education Family Day July 3. Lunch vendors will be on site for each concert, and audience members can participate in raffles and giveaways. The July 3 performance includes children's activities presented by local community partners.

Platypus Theatre's Peter Duschenes joins the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra for Charlotte and the Music-Maker, the second installment of the MSO's Joan Steele Stein Kinderkonzerts series, Sunday, January 27, 2008, at 2 p.m. in Uihlein Hall at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts. Charlotte is no ordinary little girl; she plays the trumpet on a cardboard tube, the violin with a ruler, and the drums on anything that bangs.

Guest conductor Nicholas McGegan will lead the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra in Deep & Playful January 25 and 26, 2008. The program features MSO Principal Clarinet Todd Levy in Mozart's Clarinet Concerto, and also includes John Adams' Chamber Symphony and Beethoven's Symphony No. 1. The MSO's 2007/08 season boasts performances of all nine Beethoven symphonies, paired with significant works by major American composers.

Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra President and Executive Director Mark C. Hanson announced today that Marvin Hamlisch will become the Stein Family Foundation Principal Pops Conductor effective immediately. As Principal Pops Conductor, Mr. Hamlisch will lead 2 programs during the MSO’s 50th anniversary season (2008/09) and 3 programs during the 2009/10 season.

Music Director Andreas Delfs will lead the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and the MSO Chorus, Lee Erickson, director, in Ode to Joy November 30, December 1 and 2, 2007. The program features soloists Erika Sunnegärdh, Gigi Mitchell-Velasco, Stuart Neill, and Andrea Silvestrelli in Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9. Leonard Berstein’s Chichester Psalms will also be performed.

Police in Amery, Wisconsin say that they have arrested a former teacher's aide that used to work for Amery School District, charged with having sex with one of her 16 year old students. Brenda K. Baillargeon, if found guilty, will face more than six years in prison and a possible fine of not more than $10,000.
