 <link>http://www.huliq.com/52250/large-source-nitrate-potential-water-contaminant-found-nearsurface-desert-soils</link>
<description>A UC Riverside-led study in the Mojave Desert, Calif., has found that soils under “desert pavement” have an unusually high concentration of nitrate, a type of salt, close to the surface.</description>

<title>Researcher engineers sorghum that grows in poisonous soils</title>
 <link>http://www.huliq.com/31966/researcher-engineers-sorghum-that-grows-in-poisonous-soils</link>
<description>When soils are too acidic, aluminum that is locked up in clay minerals dissolves into the soil as toxic, electrically charged particles called ions, making it hard for most plants to grow. In fact, aluminum toxicity in acidic soils limits &lt;strong&gt;crop production &lt;/strong&gt;in as much as half the world&#039;s arable land, mostly in developing countries in Africa, Asia and South America.

<title>Decoding mushroom&#039;s secrets could combat carbon, find better biofuels</title>
 <link>http://www.huliq.com/27523/decoding-mushrooms-secrets-could-combat-carbon-find-better-biofuels</link>
<description>Researchers at the University of Warwick are co-ordinating a global effort to sequence the genome of one of the World’s most important mushrooms - Agaricus bisporus. The secrets of its genetic make up could assist the creation of biofuels, support the effort to manage global carbon, and help remove heavy metals from contaminated soils.
