John McCain: Torture Helped al Qaeda Recruit

Just hours after former VP Dick Cheney defended the use of torture during an interview with Fox News Sunday, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), appearing on CBS' Face the Nation insisted that the use of torture on terrorism suspects violated international law, didn't work, and actually helped al Qaeda recruit additional members.

Why The Bush Administration Used Torture

Fellow bloggers, readers, and friends, the secret to getting your clicks up appears to revolve around posts that insinuate Cheney is, was, will be, or might have been a liar or putting it politely and mildly, a mis-speaker. Just a few days ago Senator Carl Levin stated as much: Levin: Cheney Lied About Torture’s Success.

Obama open to some prosecutions

Barack Obama enraged the right wing by releasing the Bush torture memos. Apparently the right wing is fine with torture and cannot bear that it has been made public. Obama, however, also enraged the rest of us by refusing to prosecute members of the CIA who carried out the torture. This, many of us felt, was a major defeat for the rule of law and respect for human dignity. But for those of us who have a sense of justice, it turns out that there is now a glimmer of hope that we will see some justice done.
