Mount Kilimanjaro's Snowcap Vanishing Fast

For those who doubt global warming, it is difficult when someone points out something so blatantly obvious, it cannot be denied. Thus is the snowcap on Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa an obvious indicator of the truth behind global climate change.

Underwater Meeting Highlights Climate Change Effects

The Maldives is an water-bound island nation, and like many, has fears over the possible impact of climate change and global warming on its existence. Saturday, the President and cabinet took to the ocean, or rather, beneath the ocean, to highlight those concerns.

Maher: Climate Change Skeptics Make Me Question Evolution

On "Real Time" Friday night Bill Maher raked climate change skeptics over the coals, particularly those in the GOP, insisting that they must "stop pretending climate change is a future problem." He showed images of Australia with its current host of wildfires, and wondered how those in Southern California would react to such a vista (see above).

Study shows disparity of effect of climate change on UV radiation

Physicists at the University of Toronto have discovered that changes in the Earth’s ozone layer due to climate change will reduce the amount of ultraviolet (UV) radiation in northern high latitude regions such as Siberia, Scandinavia and northern Canada. Other regions of the Earth, such as the tropics and Antarctica, will instead face increasing levels of UV radiation.

Research seeks new emphases in Arctic climate change

Much of circumpolar Arctic research focuses on the physical, direct changes resulting from climate warming such as sea ice retreat and temperature increases. “What’s understudied is the living component of the Arctic and that includes humans,” said Syndonia “Donie” Bret-Harte, associate professor of biology at the University of Alaska Fairbanks and co-author of a paper to be published September 11, 2009 in the journal Science.

Urban workers could suffer most from climate change as the cost of food drives them into poverty, according to a new study that quantifies the effects of climate on the world's poor populations.

Western Water Supply Threatened by Climate Change

As the West warms, a drier Colorado River system could see as much as a one-in-two chance of fully depleting all of its reservoir storage by mid-century assuming current management practices continue on course, according to a new University of Colorado at Boulder study.

Solar Activity Impacts On Earth's Climate

Establishing a key link between the solar cycle and global climate, research led by scientists at the National Science Foundation (NSF)-funded National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, Colo., shows that maximum solar activity and its aftermath have impacts on Earth that resemble La Niña and El Niño events in the tropical Pacific Ocean.

Ancient Global Warming Episode Holds Clues To Future Climate

When scientists take Earth's temperature, they usually use thermometers. But when scientists want to figure out Earth's temperature in the past, they have to rely on other tools. One of these is deep-sea sediment cores (see Figure). Deep-sea sediments contain fossil remains of tiny marine creatures and other materials that sink to the ocean floor.
