Freight Train Derails In Coastal Viareggio Italy

A coastal town of Viareggio in Italy saw one of the biggest train derailment in its history last night. A freight train derailed and the carriages exploded. Russian state TV says the train was passing at 90 KM/H, which is a speed two times higher than the regulations allow for these trains passing through stations.

Two trains collided this morning in Southeastern Minnesota and fell into the Mississippi River. The freight trains hit head on this morning around 5:30AM and sent at least 40 rail cars into the Mississippi River.

While the NTSB sought to determine if the engineer of a Metrolink commuter train was text messaging before a crash with a Union Pacific freight train, the head of the California Public Utilities Commission said he would seek an emergency ban of cell phone use by California train operators. 25 people were killed in the accident.

The San Francisco Bay Area's BART system (Bay Area Rapid Transit) is in talks with WiFi Rail, Inc., to provide system-wide wi-fi service after a successful trial program. Phase three of the demonstration program recently completed, and in a small blurb on WiFi Rail's home page, the company said:

At least 43 people were killed and 247 others injured in a pre-dawn collision between two passenger trains at Zibo city in east China's Shandong province on Monday.
