Philadelphia Museum Displays The Thinker

“The Thinker,” one of Auguste Rodin’s most famous sculptures and a prominent feature of the museum containing some 120 works by the French artist, has been transported to the Philadelphia Museum of Art for safekeeping during the initial phase of renovations to the exterior landscape of the Rodin Museum and along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway.

Flying Scotsman Sculpture On View At National Railway Museum

A spectacular bronze sculpture of the Flying Scotsman uniquely incorporating original metal from the actual iconic 86-year-old steam locomotive was unveiled today at the National Railway Museum. A special limited edition series of these sculptures will follow all including original Flying Scotsman metal in their construction.

Robert Graham, Famous Sculptor Dies at 70

The world-famous Mexican-American sculptor Robert Graham has died. He was 70 years old. He created the life-size bronze sculpture of U.S. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt in a wheelchair at the Roosevelt Memorial in Washington. The bronze panels at the memorial depicting the 54 social programs of Roosevelt's New Deal are also Graham's creation.

Hirshhorn Museum Acquires New Sculpture

The Hirshhorn Museum has installed a new work in its sculpture garden. Named for the Hirshhorn’s architect, “For Gordon Bunshaft” (2006) is a site-specific sculpture by artist Dan Graham.

Joseph Rossano's Mirrored Murrelets Opens At Museum Of Glass

On June 7, 2008, the Museum of Glass will introduce Mirrored Murrelets, a new outdoor art installation created by Arlington, WA, artist Joseph Rossano for the Museum's Mezzanine Plaza. Rossano created the glass birds for the installation in the Museum's Hot Shop during his Visiting Artist residency in January. Mirrored Murrelets will be on display through 2009 before it travels to additional venues around the country.

The first major traveling exhibition of works by Ulysses Davis in more than 25 years will premiere at the High Museum of Art this December. Davis was a barber in Savannah, Georgia, who was also a self-taught woodcarver of remarkable talent. He created a body of highly refined sculpture that expresses his humor, dignity and deep faith. The exhibition offers an opportunity for audiences to appreciate Davis’ remarkable work, which is rarely seen outside of Savannah.

Rijksmuseum, Beelden Aan Zee Sculpture Museum Launch Joint Exhibition

Part of the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam's Asiatic art collection will meet the collection of modern sculptures from the Beelden aan Zee sculpture museum in Scheveningen. Sixty Asian sculptures, most of which are Hindu and Buddhist gods and goddesses from Indonesia, India, Pakistan and China, will enter into dialogue with work by twenty-five 20th century sculptors at the Rijksmuseum aan Zee.

James LaCasse Sculpture Chosen For LA Quinta Festival

"Pallino," a beautiful, yet whimsical bronze sculpture by noted Colorado sculptor, James LaCasse, has been chosen as the Official Festival Poster for the 2008 La Quinta Arts Festival, it was announced by LQAF Executive Director, Christi Salamone. The Festival will run from March 13th through the 16th at La Quinta Civic Center Campus.
