Food Stamps Fast Becoming Norm for Struggling Families

Food stamps are no longer carrying the stigma that they did years ago. Now re-named the "SNAP" program (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), more than 36 million people in the United States use a monthly food benefit to help feed their families in these unstable economic times. Once viewed as a program that fed people who didn't want to work, it now helps feed one in eight Americans and one in four children.

Terrorism Suspected in Russian Train Derailment, 39 Dead

An express train bound for St. Petersburg from Moscow derailed late Sunday and the death toll reached 39 at last report. Terrorism is suspected in the deadly derailment that occured at 9:34 p.m. Moscow time, according to the Web site of OAO Russian Railways. Four of the train’s cars derailed, and investigators are looking into the cause, the statement said.

Iran's nuclear program continues

Despite international complaints against its' uranium enrichment program, Iran insists that its' program is for peaceful purposes. Facing increasing world isolation as Russia and China join other world powers in condemning the enrichment of uranium. Iran remains constant that it is only enriching uranium for peaceful purposes and that international pressure is unfair.

Nutty Putty Cave sounds like it's a made-up name, but it is not. Nutty Putty cave in a tourist attraction in Stansbury Park, UT, and John Edward Jones, 26, was stuck in a narrow crevice. Unfortunately, during the rescued attempt, he was killed.

September 11 Text Messages Released By Whistleblower Site

Activist site WIkileaks, which bills itself as a place where whistleblowers can submit documents and information to be anonymously published, is in the process of releasing over 500,000 pager text messages from 9/11. The site called the messages "U.S. national text pager intercepts." They did not explain how they received the "intercepts."

According to Italian newspaper La Stampa the creation of a new party in Spain, called Mohammedan, the country sees a fall of one of the ancient social and religious taboos: the supremacy of Catholicism.
