A new study by Emory University health care economist Ken Thorpe, PH.D. has been released on the impact of obesity to the health care cost in the US by 2018. The study shows that if the current trend of obesity in the US continues, obesity will cost the US $344 billion.

New York City's Health and Mental Hygiene Department is warning doctors about a mumps outbreak in Brooklyn that started back in August. The outbreak began among children from Borough Park who attended summer camp in Upstate New York. So far, 57 confirmed or probable cases have been identified. Cases of mumps have continued to occur in Borough Park since the start of the school year.
