Paul Allen, who co-founded Microsoft with Bill Gates in the mid-1970s, has been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, more than 25 years after he was treated for Hodgkin's disease. Vulcan CEO Jody Allen, who is also Paul Allen's sister. sent a memo about his cancer to his employees as well as to the media.

Facebook and Twitter are finding their way to your couch. The gaming world is buzzing about the addition of Facebook and Twitter to the XBox 360 dashboard as separate applications. Right on the tail of Microsoft confirming the public release slated for November 17, Sony has confirmed that leaked images showing a customized version of Facebook running on the PS3 are real, and that further information would be revealed soon.

Microsoft Cuts 800 Jobs Including Don Dodge

Microsoft Corp announced another 800 job cuts on Wednesday, on top of 5,000 jobs already eliminated under a plan to reduce costs that was announced back in January. the job cuts are spread across Microsoft's global operations, but about 200 are in and around its headquarters in Redmond, Washington.

Some small system builders are advertising that they will start shipping Windows 7 early, basically building systems as soon as they gain access to the code. Microsoft will start shipping Windows 7 to OEMs starting Oct. 12th, though the much-hyped new OS is not scheduled to launch until Oct. 22nd.
