Today begins the 32nd annual Great American Smokeout of 2008. While smoking is an addiction, and thus difficult or even near impossible to stop, there are many reasons to quit - and I shouldn't have to tell you them.

UK to introduce graphic images on cigarette packets

The United Kingdom is set to become the second European country to place graphic images on cigarette packets. 15 different images are to be placed on the packs of all brands of cigarettes. They will be introduced on October 1st. The images will be introduced onto all other forms of tobacco by 2010.

As of July 1, The Netherlands becomes the latest European nation to ban smoking in restaurants, cafes and all public places. The difference in Holland, though, is you can still order marijuana and hashish at cafes and coffee shops alongside your coffee, tea or juice. The World Health Organization (WHO) is urging governments to ban all tobacco advertising. The aim is to protect the world's youth from becoming addicted to a product WHO says could cause one billion premature deaths this century.
