The Zimbabwean opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai has called today's presidential elections "a shameful humiliation" and said it's a "tragic day in the country's history. President Robert Mugabe is the only candidate as Mr Tsvangirai withdrew following intimidation and violence. His name is still on the voting slips.
G8 ministers have called on Zimbabwe to respect the controversial result of the first round of voting. In the poll on 29 March, Morgan Tsvangirai won most of the votes. The G8 says it will only accept a result which reflects the will of the people.
The African Union says it will respond next week to the situation in Zimbabwe. On Monday and Tuesday, African Union leaders will meet in the Egyptian resort Sharm el-Sheikh. The summit is likely to be overshadowed by the crisis in Zimbabwe.
